Hi everybody. There is some very exciting news in the fashion world - Missguided have launched their Barbie x Missguided collaboration!!! As a 90's child my barbies were definitely some of my favourite toys and who does not want to dress like Barbie herself?! Now it looks like we can!

Kinvara Skincare: 24hr Rosehip Face Serum

Hello everybody!
 Awhile ago I posted about  the Kinvara Cleansing Oil which I absolutely love and I am still using it as part of my skincare routine. With such amazing results from the oil I decided to purchase their 24hr Rosehip Face Serum and see if this too lived up to its hype.

Similar to the cleansing oil, the first thing I did once I had gotten the serum was check the ingredients. More often that not you can tell if a skincare product is going to be any good from their ingredient list.( this is what I do but I am not a professional so do not take my word for it!!!)

Key star ingredients of Kinvara serum are;

*Glycerine - hydrates / moisturises the skin and fights against anti-ageing.

*Rose-hip Oil - Can help with sun damage and help improve skin texture and tone.

*Vitamin E - An antioxidant this helps to fight against Free Radicals in the skin. When combined with Rose hip oil it can do wonders for the skin.

*Seabuckthorn - Softens & Hydrates and can also help with anti - ageing.

As you can tell there are many amazing and skin loving ingredients in this product that your skin is going to love.

It is recommend to use this product AM & PM, however I found just using it a night time before I go to bed and  works best as all the ingredients have the chance to really sink in to the skin and get to work. It smells sooo amazing, it has a lemony scent of it which I love ( I would love a body moisturiser with this smell!!) Your skin immediately feels hydrated and sometimes I find I do not even need to put on moisturiser as this is enough on its own.

At the beginning of using this product I did use 2 pumps however I have found that 1 pump is actually more than enough to do my whole face and I am not wasting precious serum! Also just to note the serum itself is quite watery, it can tend to slide off your hand. ( I lost some of mine to my bedroom floor!!) I always pump it on to the back of my hand and pat it into the skin after I have cleansed. The serum itself comes in a dark glass bottle with a pump which is really good as it means no air/light is able to degrade the product.

I have been using this for the past few months and have to say I have definitely noticed a 'glow' to my face when I wake up in the morning, and my skin always feels so hydrated after using it. It is probably my favourite step of my skincare routine it feels so luxurious.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and if you are interested you can purchase the serum from here;

 Click Here

It comes in a 30ml bottle for €32.95. I am not even half way through mine and have been using it for 2 - 2 1/2 months so it is really good value considering how long you get from it.

Kinvara also offer a trial pack of their three products which you can purchase for €9.95. This is a good way of testing the products if you do not want to spend lots of money on products you are ensure of. Here is the link to the sample;

Let me know if you have used the serum or if you are thinking of purchasing.

Until next time!

Vitamin C Skincare

What does Vitamin C do?

Vitamin C is said to be one of the most powerful antioxidants in the skincare world. It helps to fight against Free Radicals in the body. ( If you are unsure what Free Radicals & Antioxidants are make sure to check out my last skincare post on them - Free Radicals & Anti Oxidants Post

Vitamin C helps against the ageing process by diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to keep our skin firmer by strengthening the collagen, it does this by building and strengthening tissue ( collagen is a connective tissue.) It will also help to reduce pigmentation in the skin.

Where do we find Vitamin C?

Much like Vitamin A, Vitamin C is found in both the foods we eat and in skincare products.

However our body does not store vitamin C so we must replace our supply everyday. It is also water - soluble which make its even harder to store as much of it can get excreted from our bodies.

If you are looking for Vitamin C in food form, look for citrus fruits and vegetables such as bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower and spinach.

We can also find Vitamin C in many skincare products. Applying Vitamin C topically is extremely effective as it is going straight to the source.

What should you look for?

When you are looking for a skincare product with Vitamin C it is best to look for the following ingredients;

Ascorbic Acid / L - Ascorbic Acid / AA / Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate : These are the most common form of Vitamin C you will find in skincare products.

Rosehip / Grapefruit / Orange: These are botanical sources of Vitamin C.

When looking at skincare ingredients, generally the higher an ingredient on a list the higher the strength of the ingredient  in the product. If you find the ingredient you are looking for is listed in the bottom few, chances are it is not going to be very strong and you are nine times out of ten better off looking for another product!

Look for 10-20% of the ingredient in the product as this will result in quicker and stronger results in the skin. However many skincare products will not list the % so you can see how high it is on the list as mentioned above!! :)

Vitamin C is quite unstable. When it comes into contact with any sort of light/heat and air this can cause it to degrade. When choosing your product it is important to ensure the product has a dropper or a pumper, also make sure the packaging is dark and preferably a glass bottle.

How do you use?

You can find Vitamin C products in moisturisers, cleansers, serums etc.

You can use what ever product is preferable to yourself. I myself prefer serums as I find they target the face quickly and are most effective.

There is not set amount of Vitamin C to use in your skincare. When first starting off ensure you start off slowly as with any new product in your skincare routine as not to irritate the skin.

It is perfectly safe to use Vitamin C in the AM & PM of your skincare routine.

Products

Kinvara 24hr Rosehip Face Serum

I have actually been using this serum for the last couple of months and I have to say it is one of my favourites to put on at night time. There is Rose hips in this which is a form of Vitamin C and also Vitamin E which is another anti oxidant ( I am going to do a separate blog post on E so keep an eye out for that.)

Image Skincare Vital C Collection

If you are a fan of skincare then I am sure this is not your first time to hear of Image Skincare. Image Skincare is becoming increasingly popular and its not hard to see why - it delivers results. The Vital C collection is one of the brands most popular collections and consists of serums, moisturisers and masques. Each contain anti oxidant ingredients.

The Ordinary Skincare Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate Cream

The Ordinary Skincare is a relatively cheaper skincare brand, however it is known to deliver the same results as more higher end brands. Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate is another form of Vitamin C. This particular product is 10% so it should deliver results quickly. It is also a lot cheaper than the other two brands I have mentioned so if you are stuck for money or do not want to splash out then this would be perfect for you.

Free Radicals and Antioxidants

Hello everyone, welcome back to another skincare post. My last skincare post on Vitamin A seemed to go down pretty well so I thought I would do another one. This week I am focusing on Free Radicals and Anti - Oxidants in skincare. When I was researching Vitamin A and Vitamin C these two words seemed to pop up a lot. I  had not heard of them before and so I did some research and they seem to be a key player in skincare, especially in the likes of anti - ageing. Like my last skincare blog post I am going to try and explain this is as easily as I can and how I understand it to be - again I am not a professional so do not take any advice before consulting with somebody who has more experience!

What are free radicals?

This took me ages and a lot of research to understand ( I was not good at science in school!!!)

The cells in our body our made up of molecules which in turn are made of atoms. Inside these atoms there is protons, neutrons and electrons. The protons and neutrons make up the middle while the electrons are around the outside.

In simple terms a free radical is an unpaired electron in an atom. Something has happened to cause this and they are now unbalanced. An electron must always ensure it is paired with another electron if not it will look for some way to pair with an electron to ensure stability within the atom.

The electron looks for another source to become stable and so it will "steal" an electron from the nearest atom available. This atom will be a healthy cell and once the free radical takes the electron that cell that was once healthy is now also a free radical and now it is looking for a way to become stable triggering a chain reaction. The more free radicals we have in our body the faster the ageing process will happen. They can also result in dead and lifeless skin.

Where do Free Radicals come from?

Free radicals are naturally in our body already through a process of oxidisation. Similar to bacteria it is OK and sometimes even good to have some free radicals in our body. The problem is when we have too many.

Free radicals can come from poor diet, the environment e.g. pollution in the air, smog and cigarette smoke, stress in our lives, illness and UV penetration.

How do we treat/ get rid of free radicals?

After reading all the bad free radicals can do to the skin, I wanted to know HOW we can get rid of free radicals or even help to improve the damage they have caused. The one answer that popped up time and time again was Antioxidants. I have heard this word so many times before but I was not too sure what it actually was and how it worked.

What are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are basically what fights and cleans up the "bad" stuff in our body. They are most likely found in foods and work when our body digests them. Antioxidants work by replacing the missing electron in the atom. There is no need for the neutron to now take one off a healthy cell and therefore the chain reaction is stopped.

Where can we find Antioxidants?
We will most commonly find antioxidants in the forms of Vitamins. The most popular ones are Vitamins A, C & E. We can source these Vitamins through the foods we eat and we are also seeing them become more and more popular in skin care ingredients. I have already done a separate post on Vitamin A which you can find here . I am going to do a separate blog post on the other two C & E.

Basically we have to increase our intake of fruit and vegetables. After researching and putting together this blog post I am now closer to understanding why certain foods are good for us and how certain things actually affect our body. Again I have to point out I am not a professional, I am just really interested in skincare and I thought I would put together a series of posts on how I understand topics that are being talked about in the skincare world. If you are looking to start something new into your routine always ask the advice of a professional!!! :)

I hope you all enjoyed this post and sorry it took me so long to post ( it took me quite awhile to get my head around!) Keep an eye out for some more skincare posts.

Lots of Love,
Shauna
